+ Do you use technology or human beings to do transcription?
We use a hybrid model that combines both. We first use our speech recognition software to digitally enhance your audio and divide it into various pieces, before sending the segments to our team of professional transcribers. Next, the various transcriptions are formatted and sent to our team of quality assurance personnel, to ensure accuracy. Finally, the files are sent back to you.
+ How much do you charge?
We typically charge between $1-2/ audio minute. Since transcription services are used by a wide variety of professionals including: market researchers, podcasters, business professionals, professors, corporate executives, and more, our pricing options can be tailored to fit your specific requirements. The following options represent some of our most common plans:

Pay As You Go

This option is great for casual users that need transcription services on an infrequent basis. Depending on the number of minutes and speakers, it’s a simple and clear pricing model with no hidden fees:
  • Single Speaker: $1/min
  • Multiple Speakers or Custom Add-Ons: $2/min
For example, if you produce a single speaker podcast, you would be charged $15 for a 15-minute recording. On the other hand, if you are a researcher that would like to have a 30-minute, multiple speaker interview transcribed, it would cost $60.

Monthly Subscription Plans

TranscribeMe provides Best-in-Class security and confidentiality. Our process of segmenting audio ensures confidentiality by preventing any one transcriber from having full access to your files. Moreover, TranscribeMe’s platform is built on Microsoft’s Windows Azure cloud solution, to securely store your information online.
+ What are the different ways I can submit my audio for transcription?
There are three ways that you can submit your audio for transcription:
  • Customer Portal: A one-stop-shop where you can upload and store all your audio recordings and completed transcripts in Word, PDF, and HTML format – accessible online 24/7.
  • Mobile Apps: Now available on the App Store, the TranscribeMe iPhone App is the leading iphone recording and transcription app available in the market. Designed for simplicity, it’s the easiest way to record audio and order transcriptions while you are on the move. Android & Windows versions are coming soon!
  • Bulk file sharing options – For customers with large volumes of audio, we can help you integrate with Dropbox, an FTP site, or even API for convenient mass file delivery. Please contact our sales departments at hello@transcribeme.com for further information.
+When will my completed transcript be delivered?
If you submit high quality audio files, then we commit to deliver your transcript within 24-48 hours. If, however, you submit low quality audio or inaudible files that cannot be digitally enhanced, then it could take longer than 48 hours. In the event of a delay, you will receive a notice promptly.
+ What file formats do you accept?
We accept most digital audio formats. These include: wav, mp3, mp4, ogg, aiff, aif, m4a, mov, wma, avi, flv, mp4, 3gp, amr. As a rule of thumb, if you can play an audio file on your computer, we should be able to transcribe it.
+What will my final transcript look like? Do you have a sample I can view?

iPhone App

+Is the service free?
While the app is free to download, we do charge for our transcription services. You pay for transcription per audio minute ordered, just like ordering transcripts via our portal. Please see our Pricing Page for more details.
+ Is the app available worldwide?
The app is currently available in all major English speaking countries including USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand & Singapore.
+Can I dictate or record my meetings and interviews using the app?
Absolutely. Our customers use our app to dictate their emails, take notes, and record meetings, interviews, speeches, workshops, and even conferences.
+How is the TranscribeMe iPhone App different from Siri or Dragon Dictate?
Both Siri (Apple’s personal assistant on iPhone) and Dragon Dictate (another iPhone app) are automated solutions with lower accuracy, even for single speaker audio. Multiple speaker audio, with different accents and levels of ambient noise, are simply not possible to convert using computers. TranscribeMe, on the other hand, has created a hybrid model that combines both speech recognition technology and human transcribers, to deliver highly accurate transcripts with a rapid turnaround.
+ How does the app work?

+I want to listen to my recording again. Can I do that?
Of course! All your recordings are saved on your iPhone, making them accessible offline. You can playback and listen to your recording whenever you like.
+ Can I download my audio from my iPhone App?
Very soon. We’re currently working on iTunes connectivity that will allow you to transfer audio recordings from the TranscribeMe iPhone App to iTunes on your computer.
+ Can I record phone interviews and have them transcribed using app?
Unfortunately, no. We do understand that this would be a great feature to have. However, due to restrictions from Apple, its not possible to record calls using the app.
+ What happens if I get a call while the app is recording?
As soon as you receive an incoming call, the TranscribeMe app is automatically paused. Once the call is finished, the app will start recording again automatically.
+When I’m recording for more than a few minutes, the iPhone screen turns off – is the app still recording in the background?
Yes. Your iPhone screen turns off to save battery, but the TranscribeMe iPhone App is still recording your conversation in the background.

The Transcription Process

+ Do you have any tips for recording high quality audio?
High quality transcripts require high quality audio. That is why we recommend you adhere to the following tips:
  • Speak normally, without speeding up or slowing down.
  • Make sure to speak close to the microphone. When there are several speakers, place the microphone in the middle.
  • Try not to have multiple people speaking at the same time, since the transcriber will not be able to make out two voices speaking simultaneously.

+ 98% accuracy sounds great. What’s your process of ensuring this level of accuracy?
TranscribeMe aims to deliver transcripts that are 98-100% accurate. We have a 2-tiered transcription and review process, ensuring highly accurate transcripts delivered fast. First, your audio is digitally enhanced and sliced into smaller segments using our own specialized software, and then our team of transcribers converts your audio into text. Then, our quality assurance personnel review the transcripts before they are sent back to you. To achieve this level of accuracy, we require clear, audible files. Please see the previous question for some tips on delivering high quality audio. Also, note that TranscribeMe does not correct grammatically incorrect language – we transcribe the audio verbatim. For special transcription requirements, please let us know and we’ll work to achieve the quality you’re looking for.
+What happens if my audio quality is not good?
If the audio file is inaudible, we will notify you right away. If you would still like to continue with the transcription process, our transcribers will do the best they can, but the transcript will most likely not achieve the high quality we aim to deliver.
+ What can I do to make sure that I receive a highly accurate transcript, fast?
The accuracy and turnaround time is directly correlated to the quality of the audio submitted. Read our list of suggestions list of suggestions to record high quality audio.
+ Can you transcribe medical/legal audio files? Do you have professionally trained medical/legal transcribers on your platform?
Absolutely. Make sure that you identify these files as “Medical” or “Legal” when submitting, so that we can route them to the appropriate transcribers.
+ Do you offer transcription services in languages other than English?
We currently support English and Spanish language transcriptions, but are quickly developing capabilities in Russian and Mandarin Chinese. We plan to include other languages this year, so keep an eye on this space!

Finished Transcript

+ How do I know when my transcript is complete?
You will receive an email when we complete your transcript with the files attached. Transcripts will also be available for download anytime, directly from the customer portal and for transcriptions done via the iPhone app, files will be sent straight to your phone.
+ Does the transcript have time stamps? If so, what intervals are recorded?
Yes. All our transcripts are time stamped and unlike our competitors, this service is provided free of charge. We time stamp the transcript every time there is a change of speaker and for single speaker files, roughly every 2 minutes.
+ Do you provide verbatim transcripts? How do you deal with ‘filler words’ (“ahhs”and “umms”)?
All our transcripts are verbatim, meaning we remove all filler words from the transcript for a cleaner document, unless especially requested changes are agreed upon before submission. Please note that TranscribeMe does not correct grammatically incorrect language – we transcribe the audio exactly as it is.
+My recording contains multiple speakers. Do you provide speaker identification?
Absolutely and unlike our competitors, we do not charge extra for this. All our transcripts are labeled S1 (Speaker 1), S2 (Speaker 2), and so on.
+ What format will the completed transcription be in?
Your transcript is available in three formats – Microsoft Word, PDF, and HTML.
+How will I receive the completed transcript?
You will receive the completed transcript in your email. If you used our iPhone app, the files will be sent straight to your phone as well. Alternatively, you can download your files from the Customer Portal whenever you need to.

+ Do you have an API?

+ It’s been more than 48 hours since I ordered a transcription. When will I receive my transcript?
We’re sorry to hear that you still haven’t received the transcript. If there was an issue with your audio file or order, you should have received an email from us. Please check your inbox, including the spam folder, as well as the customer portal. If there is nothing from us in either of these options, please email us with your registered email id and name of the file. We will get back to you within a few hours.
+ I’m not happy with the quality of the delivered transcript. How can I submit it for review once more?
It is paramount for us to ensure your satisfaction with the completed transcript and we are sorry to hear that you are not happy with the final output. Please email us with the name of the file, and let us know how we can improve the quality of the transcript.
